Epoxy is the most popular type of polymer coating for floors. It is available as a smooth and easy-to-care-for single coloured self-levelling compound, or as a slightly rough surface which is obtained by bonding coloured quartz grains with a transparent epoxy binder.
This floor is wear-resistant and does not hold an electrostatic charge, if treated properly with special anti-static systems. It is hard, and has an increased surface density. The floor is water-resistant, and can be cleaned using high water pressure equipment.
Epoxy floors are useful for areas subjected to large abrasive stress such as industrial or warehouse floors, particularly where trucks are constantly being loaded.
Epoxy floors are also widely used in places with stringent hygiene requirements, such as food production and pharmaceutical production, because the floor does not attract dust and is easy to care for. This coating is also suitable for application to ice hockey rinks.
